Malpensa Plant
The plant’s automation and supervision system is an essential factor to achieve the operational flexibility required by the cogeneration plant. Malpensa Energia has adopted a system with a distributed control system (DCS) architecture. The advanced technology of the supervision and control system allows a high level of plant automation, such as to eliminate the need for manual interventions during ordinary operation, and to operate the plant with a very small internal workforce.

Linate Plant
The plant consists mainly of three cogeneration units and the related auxiliary systems. The systems are suitable to operate continuously for approximately 8,000 hours per year. The first engine of each cogeneration unit is the WARTSILA 20V34SG, an alternative natural gas fired internal combustion engine with useful electrical power of approximately 8,000 kWe for the combined generation of electricity and thermal energy.

The company was founded in 1992 under the name of Malpensa Energia Srl. and then became SEA ENERGIA SPA in spring 2011.

In 1992 SEA (an airport operating company), together with 10 other industrial partners, set up Malpensa Energia spa with a corporate purpose in the construction and management of energy production plants. In 1994, SEA s.p.a. bought all the shares of the company and in 1995 it sold 49% of them to AEM (Milanese energy company) now A2A with which, in the same year, it signed the sub-concession agreement for the construction and management of the cogeneration plant...
